THE PLAY ZONE
The Play Zone is an accessible playground installation in Shepherd, MI, and is the first such playground in the Mid-Michigan area.
This project was designed and researched in 2014 by CMU interior design students. I wrote multiple successful grants to cover the equipment prices, with grants being sourced from the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation and Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation. I was also involved with a community installation day in November 2016, to help reduce costs for the project.
This playground was developed to allow people of all ages and abilities to enjoy playing outside. It is also centrally located near a community walking path, softball and baseball fields, and a vendor/restroom facility.
The playground equipment allows for all people to access main areas, with a large ramp through the main path of the equipment, and rubberized pour-in-place ground surfacing to allow for maximum accessibility.
